BT Vision is the most complained about digital TV service, according to Ofcom. BT Vision has again been named the most complained about pay TV operator in the UK, behind Virgin Media and Sky. According to Ofcom figures for April to June 2012, BT racked up the most moans about its pay TV service (0.25 per 1,000).
By contrast, Virgin Media was second-best (or second-worst, depending on how you look at it) bringing in just 0.07 complaints per 1,000 customers and Sky notching up just 0.02 per 1,000.
It’s perhaps a given that BT Vision would bring in a few more complaints. It’s a relative newcomer in the pay TV market compared to Sky and Virgin. The availability of on-demand channels delivered over a broadband line (over IP) will vary depending on the strength of your broadband connection. This should all change in the future as BT has announced that only customers in BT Infinity fibre areas – 11 million customers and counting – will be able to order in BT Vision in the future. This, we’re told, will guarantee higher quality channels BT also has big plans for its YouView-driven service in the future which will serve as the launch pad for its forthcoming Premier League football channel.
BT also plans to meld subscription channels such as Sky Sports 1 into the main programme guide, something that’s dependent on the next generation of YouView devices, but will make for a more streamlined and attractive proposition. By the time these launch – ETA early 2013 – BT should be in a much stronger position, being able to offer customers more high-quality channels over fibre-based lines ready for the 2013/2014 season.
