Still receiving BT bills after cancellation

I moved both my broadband and phone service across to Sky at the end of November 2011 so I had all my services in one place and to make life simpler 🙂

All seemed to go smoothly until I got another bill from BT for charges in advance. When I called to sort it out they said I had only moved my broadband service to Sky, even though i’ve been paying Sky (since Nov 2011 for rental and call charges and my BT usage has been zero).

After 2 calls to members of their ‘customer service’ team who I struggled to hear on a very faint line, never mind understand, and then two very lengthy calls to some very helpful chaps who looked into my issue in depth and apologised, confirmed BT failed to cancel my phone account at the end of Nov 11 and that I would receive a credit note and all would be sorted (happy days), I am still receiving bills from BT!!! It’s like banging your head against a brick wall.

  1. I've had exactl;y the same problem but it was my broadband they messed up on. I spent almost 5 hours over two days trying to get sense out of them. I think I have now managed to get clear of BT but until I recieve the confirmation, like you I'm not celebrating yet !!

  2. Im having this exact problem now. Ive had debt collectors writing to me about an account I havent had for over a year – ridiculous!

  3. I'm tearing my hair out. I am due a year's line rental refund as they failed to cancel the line when i moved house back in March 2012. They have failed to send a cheque so far, just 2 incorrect final bills.
How do I get my money without paying for a lawyer???

  4. am getting bills for a service they never connected 4 months ago and when i phone them i get put through to india and asked to pay the bill and they will sort my problem out,am going to send them a bill for wasteing my time

  5. You would think a simple transfer of address wouldn't be such a problem…and yet you find you are surprised when things DON'T go wrong…

  6. I moved house on 1st September, but naively agreed to stay with BT ( I only joined them as they were the only "reliable" provide in the area and I hadn't been with them for over 15 years (and NEVER GOING BACK TO THEM).However, as usual they messed up due to their own incompetence. I cancelled my order and paid my final bill. They still sending me texts about my order and its still showing on my accoun t which I've asked them to close down . They keep on sending me unwarranted bills and threatening my credit rating. I've gone with Plusnet now so how can they say I owe them money. The Government needs to egt off their backside and sort out this monster! So much for pointless privatisation.

  7. they are the most abysmal company, promised uk call centre and keep same tel number – neither happened. Called many times, promises to ring back come to nothing. NEVER will I deal with them again

  8. Had the same problem. Moved phone line to Sky who cancelled my BT subscription. When I phoned BT they denied receiving cancellation even though sky said the system used would make that highly unlikely. When I told advisor that myself and my wife suffer from learning and mental health disabilities he started to gloat about the fact BT was going to charge us for a service they know we are not going to receive. You could hear the relish in his voice. It really made his day. Only British Gas are this hateful after cancelation. Advise all friend and relatives (and enemies as nobody deserves to be abused by such a malicious company) to untether themselves and stay as far away from this deceitful company as possible. This country is run by hateful greedy parasites.

  9. I've had the same problem. Only had a phone line with them but I moved this to Sky to consolidate my services. Phoned up to check my final bill and was told it was the total amount, even though I was expecting a discount due to sky cancelling my account with them six weeks ago. Also found out I had to pay a month in advance as they hadn't cancelled my contract even though Sky sent them confirmation of my cancellation. According to Sky there is a system that would make it impossible for them not to receive conformation. On top of this my transfer to sky was held up because BT insisted the info I gave sky didn't match what they have on their system (BT have assured me they won't have this problem when collecting money from me). When I told the advisor that my wife and I have learning and mental health disabilities he started to gloat about the fact BT are going to make sure they charge us for a phone line that has been out of use (it's also a completely different number now). You could hear the relish in his voice. Sky said they would make up the difference which is a relief, but I cannot adequately convey the stress of dealing with BT. Only British Gas seem as hateful to people who cancel their services. Try to impress upon friends and relatives (I would go as far as enemies as nobody deserves to be abused by this company) to get as far away from these rogues as possible.
