Very Slow Broadband Speed

Dear BT, I want to know when BT are going to upgrade the lines/cables in my area to allow for faster broadband. At the moment 512kb is as good as gets which is disgusting in this day and age, I can’t even stream videos on BT’s own site with constant pauses.

Please let me know when I can expect a better service, my post code is SG 14 2PB and please stop advertising the fact that you’re rolling out even faster broadband speeds when I and many others can only get the very basic broadband speed!

  1. Dear BT
Fuck you, you bunch of medaling cunts.
all i want to do is watch some poxy songs on youtube but you have slowed my internet down like never before, just because i have a sky router and sky offer a better package dosent mean you have to be pricks, and i know that its bt taking the piss because i have a BT phoneline so fuck you.

  2. Dear BT
I have been a loyal customer for 5 or 6 years and recently took out Broadband with you only to be misled into an 18 month contract under the impression I would receive a speed of around 5Mb. I infact receive less than 1 and a half Mb and that is on a good day. I am unable to watch video clips or play games because it stops and starts, my pages are always out of sync with the server, it takes me an hour to carry out a simple task online because I am constantly having to wait for pages to load up or having to refresh the page. It is very frustrating and I do not consider it to be useable although you tell me I have a good speed and there is no fault with my broadband line. I would like to see any of you try to use it!! Entering into the contract I was told I would receive around 5Mb and on the speed test online I put in my postcode and was told in my area I could get a speed of 6Mb! And I have around 1Mb, sometimes less than that. You deny having said any of this and blame it all on my wiring in the house but that is the only excuse you have to cling onto, I am not happy at all, you refuse to terminate my contract without expecting me to pay 350 pounds for the priviledge! As far as I am concerned I am not getting the service or the speed I was led to believe I would have and that you have not kpt your side of the contract, you refuse to do anything about it and refuse to believe I have a problem here therefore I am stuck in an 18 month contract with you with a barely useable computer. Believe me as soon as contracts do expire on the products I have with your company I will be switching to a more reliable company who do actually care about their customer satisfaction and are willing to help to resolve any issues and problems. You have just lost one loyal customer and I wont be recommending you to any of my friends!!!

  3. today i was shocked when i signed up for the bt home bb service and was told i could only get a speed 0f 256mbit (cant do nothing with a crap speed like that) at my exchange (which im only 1.12km from), im in a busy urban town area (Boston, Lincs – pe21 8lh) and quite frankly this is appauling from BT in this day and age, they need to get their finger out and upgrade this exchange immediately, its been 5 years now and nothing has been done, there are 1000s in this area feeling the same anger towards BT. we want this exchange upgrading immediately as the service i will be paying for (up to 20mb unlimited – option 3) will not be provided, instead im getting a 80th of the speed i should be getting for the money i will be paying. does this mean i will get a 40x drop in the price as this is what would be fair, but i know BT dont care about that. there is no excuse for not upgrading this exchange we have been patient and you still haven't done it, GET IT SORTED!!! i think it is a crap service at this moment in time but you they own all the infrastructure and piping in the area so they're basically holding people to ransom making them put up with a rip off service purely for profits. start thinking more about the needs of your customers in smaller towns and cities instead of what is viable to make a profit all of the time, dont just upgrade the big exchanges that already have good enough speeds for the time being by making them even faster when it isn't needed. i would like you to pass this message onto BT's most senior manager who can actually authorise upgrade of my local exchange. if they do this i would happily be a BT customer for many years to come. its 2010 not 2000 anymore!

  4. Yep… they jsut keep letting themselves down, my last call from a 'BT OpenReach' engineer warned me If I call them out once more for speed issue's my Broadband will be disconnected..
Just kepts getting better.. Like so many others, we at least jusat want a fixed firm date when ech area will recieve a minimun of 2MB.

  7. Dear BT, I changed to BT broadband in January and have had nothing but problems with my internet speed. You sent an engineer out and our speed did go up to about 1MB but over the last few weeks I have been doing speed tests as I cant even watch a youtube video and all we are getting is between 200-350KB, what the hell am I paying for as we are on Option 3 Unlimited Broadband??? Sort it out, you are misleading people and shouldnt be selling the products to people who cannot get anywhere near 20MB, we cant even get 1MB. You are seriously ripping people off and this should not be allowed. My postcode is B32 4JX.

  9. Dear BT,

I have been a loyal customer for many years on option 3 until recently when I thought “what is the point in paying all this money for a Broadband service of less than 500kb, there’s no point having option 3 any more as it takes an age to down load anything or pauses every 5 seconds to buffer”, when trying to watch something.

I live in a village 2.5 miles from the exchange. I am told this is the reason for this poor speed.

At the moment BT is the only supplier to my village and BT are taking the P**s out of us, as we have no cable companies. What compensation do we get for this poor service.

What would happen if I approached the 100 or so households in the area to see if they would change from BT if a cable company would invest and were to promise a better speed and better service, whether this would encourage BT to start looking after its existing customers a bit better

I want to know when BT are going to upgrade the lines/cables in my area to allow for faster broadband. Less than 500kb is disgusting in this day and age.
BT are basically holding people to ransom, making them put up with a rip off service purely for profits. What about the needs of your existing customers in smaller towns and villages, instead of what is viable to make a profit all of the time, don’t just upgrade the big exchanges that already have good enough.

  10. I used to get under 1meg maybe 2 years ago. Then the exchange was upgraded and I got 4meg – for a little while. Shortly after the speed was throttled down to 2.5meg. Recently it was throttled further to 1meg again. So much for the new exchange. They tell me that fibre is being rolled out but that'll be another lie. If I complain I get the moron on the help desk who only cares about following his process. If you jump through the hoops then they'll gleefully announce that they can't find a problem and they close the incident. I refused to follow their process and the moron went into a right tiss. Made me feel better but I'm still getting stung for this pathetic service. Twats. PC is GU10 4

  11. same experience as pretty much all of above,i live pretty much in the middle of a major city,i was quoted speeds of 4-6 meg i get about 600k, there engineers are just like dodgy roofers or used car salesmen, ive had over 10 visits and including the calls from india to me aswell as the ones ive made about 50 or so,the are a disgace, they fob you off with stuff and info that ANY broadband forum can tell you im stuck with 18 months of this awful service,i got specificly for xbox live.uterrly useless.

  12. Just got BT Unlimited service and im getting less than 10% of the speed advertised, infact I was forced to get there service as they jogged the BT line which is the only way there getting clients, BY STEALING THEM.

Therefore im paying TOP £ for internet speeds that where unacceptable in the year 1990!

    Humilliates the entire UK

  14. if bt reguard your line as unstable, either to long a line or just simply bad wiring, they will cap it,(stop it rising above a certain speed)ive had problems for 3 months,i posted the above complaint(oct 12th) anyway to cut this short MAKE sure your line is not capped i was led to believe my broadband would build up so many errors it would be unusable, yesterday after a long talk with bt india they we decided we would try my line uncapped,i now get around 1.9 meg, before i was getting around 600k at best,i will keep you updated, phone up and if they dont seem to know what your talking about ask again and again until you find somone who knows what your talking about,i cant believe they never thought to at least try to uncap my line, again i will keep you updated.good luck.

  15. I have in the past recieved anything up to 5.3mb download speeds, upload of 374kbps appears constant. I am with NDO/Namesco who pride themselves on providing a high speed broadband supply, but of late are only providing me with 256kbps and upwards, often not exceeding 1700kbps. The service is eratic to say the least, and despite their best efforts to cajole BT into providing adaquate speeds of 3mb, it seems to get worse. BT have asked ME to moniter my speeds by their tester, which my house number has now been 'blocked', they have told me there is a fault on my 'speech' line causing it…speak at my expense to some dim wit in India or whereever and they say everything is fine and 'green', then BT say it is my computer, so I switch off all virus checking and firwall, and its made no difference whatsoever, then I take it to a friends buisness a few miles down the road, and hey presto its recieving at 6mb without any problem. When I speak with the neigbours, it appears that everyone bar BT's own customers are having increadibly slow speeds and a very eratic service. What have BT done – absolutely nothing, have they attended my house to sort these problems 'THEY' have found – NO, have they contacted me to see if there is any improvement or anything they can help to achive senisble levels of service (Their contact centre says that my line should support continuous 3mb without any problem)…again no visit or communication….
BRITISH TELECOM are one of the worlds diabolical suppliers of any products in my percieved opinion. Their back up is undeniably poor, they seem to thrive on having various departments on which they can constantly push their customers from one to another, offering excuse after excuse, but without offering any immediate system to resolve what they are apparently aware of. What company in the world can sell or rent you a product, tell you they have identified a fault and not offer any form of remedial action?…. Until their monopoly is removed and we can go through third party exchanges, BT will make us suffer whilst they sit back and take our money.

  16. I was ment to get the bt total boardband and calls option 3 in september unlimied download and 20mb speed and its nothing like that at all i can play internet games but everyone kicks me because my ping is to high my internet is not stable it takes forever to download anything, videos keep stopping and it takes agaes for the web pages to load on a good day i can get 5mb and thats one day in a blue moon all the other times it 1 or 1,5mbs when i try and ring bt i get a message to pay them for the internet and phone from january to march i have paided from september to december and then if you dont pay before a set date they stop you ringing out on your phone, i dont understand why they tell you to pay 6 months up front they dont tell you that when you bye the bloodly thing.i got told it would be 37,99 pound a month no more then that, then you get a bill 2 weeks later for a bill for 103 pound and they want it this week.
i try and ring bt and your call is sent to another part and it says no-one will talk to you until you have paided the rest of the money and not even in the small pint says you have to pay in adavce how shit is that…..
i have looked and i can get a better download speed and upload speed and better ping in other places of europe in some of the pooriest place were there are a lot of problems and here in england its shit you can get better internet from africa.
I dont advise for anyone to go to BT for boardband or anything. Bt has pissed me of in 1,5 months of setting a contract up

  17. Please, please BT, get your act together and start providing a properly useable broadband service to all areas. I pay for a BB link of "up to 8Mbps" via Homecall but am lucky if I get more than 2.5 Mbps despite BT having only recently rewired the service into my house. This level of provision is insufficient for receiving e.g. BBC Iplayer programmes, and results in slow procedures all the time. From the foregoing inputs, many are in an even worse position. Please do something about this scandalous performance. My postcode is GL2 8JJ.

  18. UNDear BT,

Since i signed up to your phone/broadband plan. i never recieved more than 500KPS.After spending more than 50 hours on phone calls to your call centers, all over india, hundereds of speed tests. No changes took place untill now. Kindly sort out this mess.

  19. Hi, Ive had pretty good broadband from bt, im on Option 3 Unlimited Broadband 100gb month upto 8 megline i get 3.7 upto 4.1 Mbps.

Download speed has been good, november 2009 they throttled me 56k download spead now the same again 2010.

I'm computer programer working from home so need a reasonable line.
Bt how can you throttle traffic this much ?

  20. Dear internet user and by a small miracle a BT representative,

BT advertise vast internet speeds on their advertising campaigns, but when you complain to them, they tell you they sell usage and NOT speed.

The maximum speed of our internet is 250kps. We have difficulty streaming some radio programmes let alone Youtube or Iplayer. Computer updates have to be done at night and by the morning they are nearly complete or the connection has failed. After a number of complaints to your "Customer Care" department an engineer was sent out and he said BT was able to speed up the connection however after a phone call to his manager, he had to tell us BT refused. He advised us to find the cheapest internet provider as there was no point paying for a service we weren't getting. Despite not being able to use our internet service to anywhere near its full potential, for two months running we have been charged for exceeding our bandwidth allowance. We have given up with BT. However when cancelling, they wanted to charge us £200 for the termination fee as we are leaving the contract 9 months early, even though they weren't supplying us with the service they had promised. After speaking to someone in technical, they put a note by our account admitting to appalling service, thus allowing our contract to finish with no charge when we once again called the customer care line.

The only people taking note of this post are likely to be customers or potential customers. I'm convinced BT will not react to this or any other posting on these pages as they are too big and powerful to care. At least I can let my frustrations out here.

Just one small other note – Scottish power supply our electricity, we still receive 240 volts even though we are miles from a (working) power station. What would we do if they used the same excuse as BT and wouldn't supply the same power as other people due to our location?

    Post code is CM9.

  21. I agree with all the above. Bloody Terrible (BT) keep sending me letters about thier wonderful service options etc. However, our lines are the old crumbling copper type, have numerous joins and often swim in water. BT are just not interseted in replacing these in the forseable future, just upgrading those who already get 3+ gbs and who live in prestige areas. We have to carry on with our 465kbs max service. binning every letter we get from BT as a huge waste of time and money.

  22. good buy bt you bunch of robbing cunts!! £24 quid a month for 500kbs max no matter what any speed test shows its always 500kbs so im off
no matter what you say on the phone you only care about locking people into contracts by telling them they can try a new modem which will fix everything!! yea alright!! fuck you!!

  23. yh i cant even load google without waiting a minute or so. My mum got sky 2 days ago (not broadband just TV). Funnily enough, on the morning my mum had sky properly installed my internet had trouble loading up youtube and why is it saying my "Wireless connection speed" is
54.0 Mbps yet the patching speed for my starcraft 2 game is nomore than 14 kbps ?!?! it use to be about 500kbps but its not even that now, a 38 mb patch takes nearly an hour to download ?!?! f**k BT my mum is going to change anyway so BLOW ME FAGGOTS

  24. BT Call Centers are a complete joke. BT have identified an infrastructural problem in our area. However they are not willing to fix it, you just keep raising problem faults into the ether and to infinity. I've switched. There is no communication between engineers in the UK and there Call centers in BANGKOK and INDIA. I have cancelled ALL my BT Services and never ever ever RETURN. BT used to be quite Good, now due to their Customer Services they are just a comic organisation, the worst providers, as regards them as the British Leyland, the OLD SKODA, the BUTLINS the K-TEL of the communication industry, they have become of all IT industries Jokes, good going BT.

  25. My bt is so slow, I can go and make a brew while waiting to watch a 2 minute clip on utube. Last week it took an hour and twenty five mins to upload a 6 minute video onto my utube channel. even at four in the morning its still the same , so dont fob me off with peak time usage etc. If this isnt sorted pronto, I am cancelling my contract and going to virgin. My postcode is sy13 2ba.
